Kalo Samovars

The Kalo Shop was an entertainer's best friend.  It produced the highest quality drink sets, cocktail mixers, smoker's trays, and coffee and tea sets that graced the finest homes in early 20th century America.

The coffee pots and tea pots shown on this related page as components of larger sets were masterful Arts & Crafts objects.  A few solitary examples are below as well.  But while these were perfect for small soirees or intimate dinner parties, they weren't adequate for crowds.  Fortunately, Kalo made large samovars or coffee urns to help.

The interesting thing about these forms is that they served almost as centerpieces, their very large bodies perched high above the table and calling attention to themselves.  With their splayed legs and arched supports they were visually striking as well as functional, and their proportions and scale were handled elegantly by the Kalo craftsmen.  Such vessels could have been mundane or gangly, but these creations are refined, balanced, and elegant -- true works of art.
